CBAM · Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism

Exporting to the EU under CBAM

Since 1 January 2026, imports of aluminium products into the EU fall under CBAM. This is what it means for your orders.

1

What it is

CBAM puts a carbon price on certain imported goods, so that they carry a cost comparable to EU-made products under the EU emissions trading system. Aluminium is one of the covered sectors.

2

Who has to act

The EU importer of record is normally the declarant. They need authorised CBAM declarant status, report the emissions embedded in the goods and surrender CBAM certificates. Importers below an annual threshold of 50 tonnes are relieved of most of these obligations.

3

What it costs

Certificates for 2026 imports can be bought from 1 February 2027; the 2026 price follows the quarterly average of EU ETS allowances. The cost depends on the emissions embedded in the aluminium. Verified actual data can be more favourable than the default values, which are set per product and country of origin.

4

How we support you

Tell us with your enquiry that CBAM matters for the order. On request we provide a CBAM data package for the product group: the CN code (7604 29 90 for solid profiles), the direct and indirect emissions and the embedded electricity per tonne, and whether the values are verified actual data or defaults. The customs classification also appears on our paperwork.

Your checklist as importer

  • ✓Confirm your authorised declarant status, or that you stay below 50 tonnes a year.
  • ✓Confirm the CN code of each profile with your customs broker.
  • ✓Tell us whether you want actual emissions data or will use default values.
  • ✓Plan certificate purchase for the year after import.

General information, status October 2026. Not legal or customs advice. Rules and thresholds are still evolving; please confirm with your customs broker or the competent authority.

Sustainability

Made to last, made responsibly.

We aim to meet, and go beyond, our customers' sustainability expectations.

Aluminium is one of the few construction materials that can be recycled again and again without losing its properties. Our task is to make profiles in a way that fits this promise.

01

Material and recycling

We give priority to recyclable material, and production scrap is collected for recycling.

02

Energy and carbon

We work continuously on energy efficiency in extrusion and surface treatment to reduce the carbon footprint. For EU customers, our CBAM data package shows the emissions embedded in the product.

03

Water and chemicals

Process water and chemicals from surface treatment are treated before they leave the plant.

04

People and safety

Policies for employee health and safety, backed by ISO 45001. Our environmental management is certified to ISO 14001:2015.

Why aluminium

  • ●Recyclable without loss of quality: aluminium can be remelted and used again many times.
  • ●Recycling saves energy: remelting aluminium scrap needs only about 5 % of the energy used for primary production.
  • ●Light weight: less fuel per tonne-kilometre in transport, and lighter finished systems.
  • ●Long service life: profiles in facades, windows and furniture stay in use for decades and can be recovered at the end of their life.
